People are abuzz over the banned Lane Bryant ad, which ABC and FOX refused to air because it was considered “too scandalous.” Or is this the work of prejudice from TV networks against featuring plus size women? Take a look for yourself:

(And I thought commercial controversies were only allowed during the Super Bowl.)

Sure, there’s a lot of bare skin and cleavage, but it’s nothing out of the ordinary as far as advertising goes. These Lane Bryant ads are harmless when compared to Victoria’s Secret commercials (which both FOX and ABC run regularly). Are TV networks presenting a double standard for models who aren’t toothpick thin? I think so!

What do you think?

Yeah…I really don't see how that is in any way more scandalous than any of the other underwear commercials on TV. I guess it's getting Lane Bryant more publicity, though! ;)

Kevin April 27, 2010 at 5:34 pm

Haha, that's a good point. I bet Lane Bryant came out ahead after all the controversy. Although I remember reading this interesting study that said that plus-size models actually cause low self-esteem!

Total double standard AND I hope that Lane Bryant rakes in a whole bunch of new customers over it. Does anyone ever watch ABC Soaps? Hahahaha that's practically soft core porn yet they refuse to run this?

This is the biggest load of crap ever! Skinny girls are praised and allowed all over television and put an inaccurate image in girls minds about their bodies but when a REAL woman gets a chance on tv, she gets banned!! Why? Because she has REAL boobs and REAL curves!? So her collar bone doesnt stick out to the point that she can hold a roll of quarters on each side and her hip bones dont stick out like shelves! Shes a real lady! And its absolute crap that they banned the commercial

Brian P April 28, 2010 at 12:57 am

Wow this ad is totally awesome and I see why it was banned from tv. Now I thought she looked good… from the above comments are you guys saying she is not skinny… You are out of your mind…that is a perfect woman right there!

I'm not a big fan of any of these lingerie commercials when my five year old son is watching TV, BUT I don't see how this is any different than Victoria's Secret ads! They are much more offensive, in my opinion.

Haidy April 28, 2010 at 6:42 pm

Agree with Melanie, I do not like these commercials either and not sure why they would allow these or others.
There is however more here than in Victoria secret ads. I do not agree with melanie, I see these more offensive.

This is the first YouTube hit for "victorias secret ad":

Granted, it's directed by Michael Bay (for reasons I can't explain), but I think that's A LOT less appropriate than the Lane Bryant ad.

people- loosen up! everyone has a body. big deal. i' prefer seeing bared bodies over violence and offensive language on tv.

Heather April 28, 2010 at 10:22 pm

I don't see a difference between this and any other underwear commercial. Victoria's secret adds are just as (if not more) racy. I guess it is okay as long as they are un-naturally thin. I am plus sized and have been a plus sized model…there is certainly bias here on the part of the networks.

angie April 29, 2010 at 1:04 pm

As a plus-sized woman, I was SOOOO freaking ticked off when I heard about this ban. There are commercials that air EVERY day at all times that are like soft porn almost but THIS commercial is taken as too offensive? Give me a BREAK! This is all about fat descriminiation–plain an simple.

scott April 29, 2010 at 1:22 pm

TOO MUCH SKIN my bum! This was ALL about our country's obsession with being skinny! I thought the commercial was refreshing and the model gorgeous! It was awesome to see a woman that looked like a woman and not a skeleton!

Sarah Hirsch April 29, 2010 at 4:27 pm

That is so ridiculous! Victoria's Secret ads are at least as scandalous.

Alisha May 1, 2010 at 1:24 am

Definitely racy, but that has nothing to do with size. Still, there is much racier stuff on TV, come on now.

Joanne J May 1, 2010 at 10:16 am

This ad is great!

Stephanie May 20, 2010 at 5:08 pm

I think that there is definitely a double standard here, but I also think that the Victoria Secret ads should also be banned. I personally think that it is soft porn and don't want my husband or my children viewing that!

Laura May 21, 2010 at 5:56 pm

God forbid a woman have GASP boobs! The Victoria's Secret commercials are ridiculous but they are so thin that they don't have booty or boobs so when this came on people couldn't handle it.
I'm not a fan of these types of commercials either way but this is a total double standard.

Thanks for your publication on the vacation industry. I’d also like contribute that if you’re a senior considering traveling, it’s absolutely vital that you buy travel insurance for elderly people. When traveling, senior citizens are at greatest risk of getting a health care emergency. Having the right insurance coverage package for your age group can safeguard your health and give you peace of mind.

Thanks for your posting. I would like to remark that the first thing you will need to accomplish is determine if you really need credit repair. To do that you will need to get your hands on a duplicate of your credit history. That should really not be difficult, since government mandates that you are allowed to acquire one absolutely free copy of the credit report each year. You just have to check with the right people. You can either check out the website with the Federal Trade Commission and also contact one of the main credit agencies specifically.

thus far Pepsi has been known for making and selling oddly flavored versions of their famous Pepsi soda. They’ve gone clear, white, clear, red, and now they’re going blue with Pepsi blue.

Thanks for your concepts. One thing really noticed is that banks along with financial institutions understand the spending behaviors of consumers and also understand that plenty of people max out their own credit cards around the breaks. They smartly take advantage of this kind of fact and commence flooding the inbox and snail-mail box having hundreds of Zero APR card offers immediately after the holiday season concludes. Knowing that if you’re like 98% in the American public, you’ll rush at the opportunity to consolidate personal credit card debt and move balances to 0 apr interest rates credit cards.

You are probably right. Your idea is good an i think that would be useful for everybody. I’ll look more deeply into.
