I hope it’s finally getting sunny where you are, because next week is National Playground Safety Week, which is a great time to take your kids to the local playground. But it being Safety Week and all, it’s also a good time to make sure all the playground equipment passes your own safety inspection. 1. Safeguard Against Falls
According to the National Program for Playground Safety, 70 percent of all playground injuries are related to falls. Playground surfaces should be forgiving materials, such as mulch, sand, rubber mats or tiles. To prevent falls, consistently inspect steps, stairs and ladders on the playground and install guardrails or barriers around any platform over 2.5 feet high.
