Life360 Acquires Chronos to Deliver a More Personalized, Context-Rich Experience

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 27, 2015 Life360, the leading Family Network, announced today that it has acquired Chronos Mobile Technologies, creators of an industry-leading contextual-awareness engine that combines location with other passively-collected data to understand people’s day-to-day patterns and routines. Together the two companies will provide Life360 families with increased context and actionable insights based on their daily activity.

Chronos has spent the last couple of years building technology that leverages all of the available sensors on a smartphone to generate intelligent context while running in the background. With this technology, users can do things like automatically see how they’re spending their day (e.g., at home, at work, running, driving, sleeping, etc.) and understand trends and connections between various behaviors (e.g., how commuting is impacting time spent with family).

“The Chronos technology allows us to give our users an even deeper level of contextual awareness around their family’s daily activities,” said Alex Haro, co-founder of Life360. “By showing them where they go most often and how much time is spent on specific activities, we can empower our families with key insights around family behavior.”

Both Life360 and Chronos were part of the StartX network and quickly identified the potential synergy between Chronos’s work and Life360’s offering. The Chronos technology will be incorporated into Life360 to become an integral part of its location and context efforts.

“We have been focused on building the tools to make your smartphone as smart as it should be,” said Dylan Keil, co-founder and CEO of Chronos. “We believe that the context we provide coupled with Life360’s network of millions of families will have a powerful impact on how people stay connected with those who matter most.”

“These kind of deals between our founders perfectly reflect the strength and value of being part of the StartX community,” said Cameron Teitelman, founder and CEO of StartX.
