Does Facebook Have an Anti-Parenting Agenda?

facebook_anti-parentingRecently, Facebook has started removing breastfeeding photos, citing the pictures as “inappropriate content.” Of course, many parents are unhappy to see their photos deleted, and now bloggers are questioning if Facebook has an anti-parenting agenda.

There are a number of Facebook groups that were started to oppose Facebook’s reaction to breastfeeding mothers, like If breastfeeding offends you, put a blanket over YOUR head! and Hey Facebook, breastfeeding is not obscene.

On one hand, I can understand why some Facebook users are upset that their photos were deleted. On the other hand, are breastfeeding photos appropriate on Facebook? I understand that Facebook is used to share and stay in contact between family members, but at the same time, it’s still public material. And even further, isn’t it Facebook’s call to decide what’s appropriate or inappropriate for their site?

Still, I guess breastfeeding photos are no more obscene than the hundreds of thousands of drunk photos from college students.
