Go-Gurt: It's Not Healthy

Yogurt is a healthy snack for kids. It’s a great serving of protein and calcium, and it tastes good at any time of day. So Go-Gurt, that yogurt that comes in a squeeze tube, that should be healthy too, right? Not according to Paula at Strollerderby.

While the number one ingredient is low fat milk, it’s followed by sugar and high fructose corn syrup. And for daily nutrition, it has vitamin A, D3, and calcium, but less than 10% of the daily recommended dose of each.

“Why do we allow ourselves to pretend that faux healthy foods like fruit snacks and Go-gurt are better than candy?” Paula writes. “I know better and I still play that game. Is food marketing that convincing? Apparently so.”

Paula isn’t arguing that Go-Gurt is bad for your kids, just that it’s not particularly healthy. Treat it like candy, not yogurt.

Do your kids love Go-Gurt?

I don't think I will be giving it to my kids- but it's been pretty easy this far staying away from sweets (he's 17 months and two are on the way). I wonder if it is a better alternative to ice cream?

As a diabetic, I am addicted to reading labels. I use this skill for my son. Gogurt is a fine treat in moderation. Frozen is best because when the kids sword fight with the tubes you don't end up with gogurt all over the walls. I speak from experience.

Kids are so drawn to these, mostly because of the packaging. Wish the healthier yogurt companys would get a clue and appeal to the youngsters.

yogurt in convenient suck-it packs is a great invention….but not the crap they put in it. this is why we always get stonyfields or horizon organics yogurt. so worth the extra buck. but what about the plastic packaging this yorgurt is in??? is that really safe, to have my son sucking on plastic?

I honestly have no kids, but I was a kid once and I loved all that bad food. Chicken nuggets and french fries, go-gurt, sugary cereal full of marshmellows, you name it. They deliberately target kids with their colorful kiddie packaging ect. and it's just sickening when you know that it's actually not really good for kids at all. I ate things when I was little thinking it was fine, not knowing how bad the things I was eating are. Now that I'm 22 I'm fat. Wow, who could have though? lol. I believe my parents weren't very educated about eating healthy when I was a kid, or didn't really care if I had seconds or wanted something in particular. They make it sound like if you're a kid and you don't eat this "kid food" then you're a weird kid for eating your carrot sticks in your lunch when all your friends have go-gurt or cookies ect.

Goodness! I didn't know this about Go-gurt…. not that I've ever used it anyway so it doesn't really matter. But from now on I'll make sure to just stick with regular yogurt.

I don’t think go-gurt is healthy either. It has tons of sugar in it. I never buy it for my daughter. To me it is dessert.

I have never purchased it for my grandkids but it is nice to have this information so if the subject comes up, I will be more knowledgeable of what is not healthy that sounds healthy. My older grandkids will be able to understand this also.

What I have generally told individuals is that when evaluating a good online electronics store, there are a few issues that you have to factor in. First and foremost, you need to make sure to choose a reputable as well as reliable retailer that has enjoyed great assessments and rankings from other customers and industry experts. This will ensure that you are getting through with a well-known store providing you with good service and help to the patrons. Many thanks for sharing your thinking on this web site.

A little Googleing will show how much sugar is in this stuff. Two sites I've seen have shown that gogurt has more sugar per gram than Coke! Gogurt combines sugar and high fructose corn syrup in their product. Because there are two different sugars, they do not have to list it as the first (and most prevalent) ingredient. YIKES!
