Prepped and ready: Make your own emergency supply kit

Emergency prep is important, but easy. Add a few extra items to your next shopping list, and you’ll be ready for most anything.

For group safety:

  • Water
  • First aid kit
  • Flashlight and spare batteries
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Non-perishable foods
  • A camp stove
  • Phone chargers
  • Blankets
  • Sleeping bags and pillows
  • A battery-powered radio
  • A basic set of tools and kitchen items
  • A tarp
  • Paper and pen

For good spirits:

  • Games to pass the time
  • Feel-good snacks
  • Beer or wine

For each person:

  • Medication and prescriptions
  • Glasses or contacts
  • Personal hygiene and sanitation products
  • A change of clothing, closed-toed shoes, layers
  • Identification
  • Pet food and treats

Stash these items somewhere easy to grab in case you need to move quickly, and enjoy the extra peace of mind.
