How to Recycle Your Tile Trackers

When Does a Tile Need to be Recycled?

Your Tile was designed to last through years of regular use (and a little extra wear and tear), but like most hardware, it unfortunately won’t last forever. When your Tile has reached the end of its lifespan--don’t trash it! Tiles are 99% recyclable through your typical e-recycling process. The only thing that can’t be recycled is the battery!

So, how do you know when it’s time to recycle your Tile? Here’s an easy list that can help you decide if it’s time to retire your old device and replace it with a new one:

  • When your Tile’s battery is no longer working

  • If the Tile becomes too damaged to use

  • If for some reason your Tile isn’t working quite right, even after contacting customer care

How to know if your Tile battery is no longer working:

To check if your Tile has battery power, double press the Tile logo and listen for a series of beeps. If you double press the logo and you don’t hear any sound, your Tile has reached the end of its battery life. If you have a Tile with a replaceable battery, like the Tile Mate (2020) or Tile Pro (2020), replace your Tile’s battery and repeat the test. If you still hear nothing, it’s time to recycle.

If you have a Tile with a non-replaceable battery, like the Tile Slim (2020) or Tile Sticker (2020), you only need to test the battery once. If you don’t hear any sound when you double press the Tile logo on your Tile device, it’s time to recycle.

What could make your Tile too damaged to use:

Your Tile was built tough. This little piece of tech has been put through rigorous testing, including extreme temperatures, drop tests, and even a few rounds in the barrel of a dryer! So, with everyday use, it’s unlikely that your Tile will see much more than a few minor dings. Tough does not equal indestructibiliity, though, so it’s not totally impossible for it to break. We’ve heard tales of Tile customers who’ve dropped their keys off the roof of an apartment building, had their wallet run over by cars on the highway, and even put their Tile trackers through the wash cycle with their laundry!

Every Tile comes with a standard 1-year warranty in the event of an unlikely manufacturing defect.

If your Tile is deformed or damaged, we recommend you recycle your Tile and check out the latest styles to replace it, like one of our limited edition designs.

How to Recycle Your Tile

Tiles are recyclable at any standard e-waste/e-recycling facility near you. In your search engine of choice, type in “e-recycling near me” and you’ll be surprised by the number of facilities--and stores--that accept this kind of recycling. Pro Tip: keep a bag of e-waste at home for a convenient 1-stop shop once it’s full.

If you live near a Best Buy, rejoice! Together, Tile and Best Buy are making it even more convenient to recycle your Tile. Simply bring your Tile to a Best Buy near you for easy drop-off. Best Buy will take up to 3 household items per day for recycling.

Thank You for Recycling

Recycling your old Tiles means you're keeping them out of landfills. This is especially important because consumer electronics require special handling to make sure that hazardous substances -- like heavy metals -- are not dumped into the environment. Thank you for recycling your Tile!
