Amazon Sidewalk is About to Strengthen the Finding Power of Your Tiles

Published: May 7, 2021

The finding power of Tile devices and Find With Tile embedded products all over the U.S. will benefit from our collaboration with Amazon Sidewalk, making finding misplaced items at home or on-the-go easier and faster than ever.

Tile is a leading finding service that locates millions of misplaced items every single day. Tile devices come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and designs and work across iOS and Android via the category-leading Life360 app. We also integrate our technology directly into products that people already know and love, in partnership with more than 20 brands across audio, wearables, travel, smart home, and PC.

Amazon Sidewalk is a neighborhood network designed to help compatible devices work better both at home and beyond the front door. Operated by Amazon at no charge to customers, Amazon Sidewalk uses Bluetooth and the 900 MHz spectrum to simplify new device setup, extend the low-bandwidth working range of devices and help devices stay online and up-to-date even if they are outside the range of home Wi-Fi.

With this newly-expanded integration, eligible Echo devices can use Amazon Sidewalk to securely search for Tiles. This means that Tiles could get location updates more often, which would make finding your Tiled items faster and more convenient at home and on-the-go.

How Does Sidewalk Make Finding Tiles at Home Faster?

The fastest way to find a misplaced item at home with Tile is by making it ring a helpful tune. Imagine if instead of tearing apart the house looking for your keys or wallet, you could simply ask Alexa to find it for you, and moments later your Tile would start ringing loudly from inside your couch?

What does this mean for you? To start, this means more specific finding at home. With just a handful of Tiles and an Echo device, customers can quickly find their phone, wallet, keys, TV remotes, headphones, laptops, bags and so much more. And Tile users with more than one Echo device at home will benefit from even more specific location updates when finding items in their own home. Alexa will be able to tell you the name of the Echo device that your missing item is close to.

And if you think you might’ve forgotten your wallet at home, your Echo device can also help you stay up-to-date on items you may have forgotten. When you leave something at home, like your keys or wallet, your Echo device will stay connected to your Tiles and display their live location on a map in your Life360 app, so you can relax knowing they’re safe and sound.

How Does Sidewalk Make Finding Tiles Outside More Convenient?

Tiled items that are lost outside of the home are typically outside of the Bluetooth range of their owner’s phone or tablet and can’t be found by making it ring. In the event that a Tile is lost on-the-go, Tile users can count on the global Tile Network to help locate their Tile. The worldwide community of phones and tablets running the Life360 app, as well as Network extenders such as Xfinity and Japan Taxi, will automatically and securely scan for lost Tiles and send secure location updates to their owner.

Now, eligible Echo Devices around the neighborhood connected to Sidewalk can help you find your Tiled items. These Echo devices can also securely scan for and update the location of Tiles using Sidewalk’s Bluetooth frequency. This expanded relationship will exponentially grow the already massive Tile Network, which means lost Tiles outside the home will receive more location updates more often, helping customers track them down faster.
