Lost my Wallet Somewhere in Japan

Publicado: 23 abr 2015

Sometimes we don't even notice that something is lost – and by then, its too late. Luckily with Tile, you can always seen the last place an object was seen by the app, so retracing your steps is easy. Tile is a great app for travel, and our wallet tracker will do the trick if you leave something behind!

Japan is a bit expensive, so I've stayed about 50/50 between capsule hotels and actual hotels. When I stay at a hotel abroad I don't bother to unpack any stuff that I won't need.

I travel with two phones, a Nexus 5 and an iPhone 6+. I tend to prefer Android but when traveling the iPhone is superior - better photos and a better battery life. Whenever possible I try to use two factor authentication. The two factor application I use is installed on my Android phone which I've put in a travel pocket, together with an extra credit card and my Swedish id.

Second night - when staying at a hotel - I cleared my cookies from one of the browsers I use. When the cookies are removed I need to use my authentication app to be able to log back in again. At that moment realized that my travel wallet was gone. The most likely scenario is that I forgot it at the last hotel in Tokyo I stayed at, but why haven't they contacted me then?

The day after I travel to Fuji - staying at another hotel that is part of the same chain as the hotel where I believe my travel wallet was lost. I ask the staff there to call back and have the hotel in Tokyo check. They do, but nothing turns up. A bit dismayed I return to my room and goes through all my stuff yet again, finding nothing. But by going through all of my stuff I find two of my tiles. I have three - one should be in the travel wallet. And yes, one of the tiles haven't been updated for two days and shows the location of my former hotel room in Tokyo. I go down to the reception again and show the staff how my tiles work. I use one of the ones I still have with me and then point to the map on my phone where I last had the location of my missing tile. The staff call back to Tokyo and my room is searched again, and finally my things were found.

Eventually someone would surely have found my travel pocket and since my id was in it, figuring out whom it belonged to would have been easy. But by then I might have been hundreds of miles away in some other country getting it back would have been harder and more expensive.
