Life360 Launches FamilyChannel, the First Secure and Private Group Messaging for Families
Enables more than 5 million families to communicate quickly and reliably on both smartphones and feature phones
San Francisco, CA – November 18, 2011 – Life360 today announced it is the first location-based service to provide secure group messaging capabilities designed specifically for families. Now, the more than 5 million families using Life360’s mobile safety app can rely on its FamilyChannel™ for convenient, secure and reliable communication. FamilyChannel also ensures privacy, so that family messages do not end up outside the family.
Built on Life360’s emergency messaging system, group messages and location data are encrypted, and are guaranteed to be sent and received. Because the Life360 app uses the smallest amount of data bandwidth necessary to reach the Life360 servers, family members can send messages even when phone networks become congested or unavailable. Family members also have the option to receive messages via SMS, in-app notification, email or all channels. To do so, they can simply adjust their personal settings within the app. Users can then respond through any of those selected channels.
The FamilyChannel comes pre-set with a variety of check-ins, including “Running late,” “On my way,” and “Got to school.” That makes sending the messages among family members as easy as a single tap. They can also customize messages, as needed. Additionally, as family members often keep Life360 running on their mobile phones to view each other’s locations already, they now can easily send messages with no added steps.
