Share Your Location on Your Terms: Introducing Temporary Location Sharing on Life360

There are times when you want to share your location. Times when it would actually make life easier — but it feels like a big thing. A permanent thing. So, instead, you fire off a series of increasingly unhelpful texts while navigating a crowd.

Almost there. Five minutes. Wait, which entrance?

And sometimes you want to share where you are — just not the forever kind of sharing.

Location sharing feels like it’s either always on…or not happening at all.

There’s rarely an in-between.

And that’s the problem.

Because most of life doesn’t happen in “always on.”

You want to let your spouse know you’re on your way without making it a whole thing. You want your friend at the crowded amusement park to find you without a dozen “where are you” texts.

You want the person picking you up from the airport to see exactly how far out you are — and then have that access quietly disappear when you’re in the car.

Now you can share on your own terms.

Today, we're introducing temporary location sharing — a link, live location, and a timer you control.

No app download required for the person you're sharing with.

No permanent access granted.

No awkward conversations when it's over.

Just the location-based convenience and peace of mind you actually needed, and nothing more.

Temporary location sharing with non-Life360 members is consistently one of our most-requested features. You asked — a lot. Here it is. Try temporary location sharing in the app today.

Sharing your location is an act of trust. The tools should match.

Let's be real: handing someone your live location is a big deal. It says something about how much you trust them. And for some, always-on location sharing makes complete sense.

Life360 was built for exactly that kind of connection. Those permanent circles, those check-ins — that's what you love about Life360.

But everyday life is also full of relationships that don't fit that mold.

There's the colleague who needs your ETA. The neighbour watching your dog. The group of parents navigating a soccer tournament weekend together. The in-laws are visiting for a week.

Temporary location sharing exists for everything in between.

Here's exactly how temporary location sharing works (it's embarrassingly simple).

Your side — three taps

  1. Open Life360 and tap the new share icon on your map.

  2. Pick your duration: 1 hour, 4 hours, 8 hours, or until end of day.

  3. Send the link however you'd like — iMessage, WhatsApp, AirDrop, any messaging app you use.

While you're sharing, you'll see a clear status reminder right in the app. Want to stop early? Tap Stop Sharing. That's it. No residue. No lingering access.

Their side — no app needed

  1. They click the link.

  2. A map opens in their browser — your live location, your name, your photo, your battery status. If they need directions to you, they're right there.

  3. When time's up (or when you stop it manually), their screen reads: Location is no longer shared. Clean, clear, complete.

Privacy isn't an afterthought. It's the whole design.

One of the biggest reasons people resist location sharing — even when they genuinely want the convenience — is that it feels irreversible. Once you share, you have to actively undo it. And that act of undoing can feel loaded: awkward, rude, like it signals something about the relationship.

Temporary location sharing is built on a completely different assumption. You control what you share, with whom, and for how long. The access expires as promised — quietly, automatically, without you lifting a finger. No conversation needed. No why did you remove me? moment.

That's location sharing designed around trust. And it's the kind of location sharing that works for more of the moments in your life.
