If so, keep reading to learn more about our new device integration with HP and Intel that’s sure to simplify your life and keep you organized.</p><h2><strong>How Does Tile Work to Find My Lost HP Laptop?</strong></h2><p>Beginning today, HP’s popular <a href='http://www.hp.com/go/elitebook800' target='_blank' title='Opens in a new tab'>EliteBook 800 G8 Series</a> and the ZBook Firefly 14 and 15 G8, will ship with Tile pre-installed onto the device. These new laptops join the Elite Dragonfly and EliteBook 1000 Series in HP’s growing lineup of Tile-enabled products. This new integration makes it incredibly easy for customers and corporate IT department’s alike to access Tile’s tracking technology on their laptops--without adding any extra hardware to the sleek and convenient design of the computer.  </p><p>It’s a significant milestone for Tile, HP and Intel, and our customers. This is our first device integration with Intel after having announced plans for collaboration earlier this year. Our team continues to work closely with Intel and PC manufacturers to determine the best Tile experience for oue users. In fact, in 2021 Tile will come pre-installed on select HP-11th Gen Intel Core Platforms configured with Intel wi-Fi 6 (Gig+) WLAN cards and integrated Intel Bluetooth. </p><p><q>By integrating Tile capabilities into our Wi-Fi / Bluetooth solutions for Intel PC platforms, we’ve made it extremely easy for our PC partners to activate Tile and offer this feature to users,</q> said Eric McLaughlin, Vice President Client Computing Group and GM Wireless Solutions Group at Intel.</p><h2>How do I use it?</h2><p>Once activated through the Tile Windows app, EliteBook 800 Series and ZBook Firefly users can take advantage of the powerful finding features on the Tile mobile app to find their laptop when it’s lost somewhere nearby or far away. These features help you track down your lost laptop even work when the device is in sleep, hibernate, or soft off mode.</p><p>If your HP laptop is lost nearby, Elitebook 1000 Series customers will be able to use the Life360 app to make their devices ring instantaneously so they can find it wherever it’s hiding. Operated by Amazon at no charge to customers, Sidewalk uses Bluetooth, the 900 MHz spectrum and other frequencies to simplify new device setup, extend the low-bandwidth working range of devices, and help devices stay online and up-to-date even if they are outside the range of home wifi. </p><h2>Tile and Amazon Sidewalk: how will it work?</h2><p>Tile will be the first third-party Sidewalk-enabled device and experience to join Amazon Sidewalk later this year. Customers will be able to connect to their Tiled items from further away than with standard Bluetooth range, making finding lost things faster and even more convenient. Tile Joins Amazon Sidewalk to Make it Easier to Find Your Things

<p>In this article, Jossie Haines describes how she created the Tile Mentorship program, including prep, training, and measuring success.</p>

<p>Mentoring is a topic I’m very passionate about, and believe it can enable women and underrepresented minorities to get access to opportunities they may not have access to. I launched the Tile Mentorship Program in December 2018, and we’ve had 3 successful rounds of mentoring since then. More than 65% of the company participated as either a mentor or mentee and greater than 90% executive team participated as a mentor every round. At Tile, I’ve seen mentoring empower my colleagues to switch roles within the company and allow them to learn about aspects of the business they may not have day-to-day access to and help newly promoted managers gain the skills needed to succeed in their new role. </p><h2>Launching a Mentoring Program</h2><p>In this article, I will share the steps and resources we used to run our mentoring program at Tile. One of my goals was to define a mentoring program process that I could pass on to someone else at Tile to run the actual coordination as well as have something I could share with others looking to start their own mentoring programs at their companies, so they wouldn’t have to start from scratch. I wanted a program that would provide real value to our employees and enable them with experiences and opportunities they may not get elsewhere, be easy to manage (especially since this is my side passion and not my main role), and finally, I needed it to be free as I had no<br/>budget :) The first step to launching a successful mentoring program is getting leadership buy-in. At Tile, I had a lot of support and enthusiasm from both Lissa, our VP of People, and CJ, our CEO. This empowered me to ask the executive and leadership teams to commit to participating as mentors to ensure the success of the program. In true Tile culture, the leadership team heartily agreed to participate and I feel this has been one of the biggest reasons our mentorship program has been so successful. </p><p>After a lot of research into different mentoring programs and options, I focused my efforts around a few main key areas to build a successful mentoring program: </p><p>-   Having a well-defined timeline and process for a mentoring cycle  </p><p>-   Enabling matches that most effectively empowered all the employees desiring mentoring </p><p>-    Ensuring proper training for both the mentor and the mentee to enable a successful mentoring relationship. </p><p>Below I will share why I focused on each of these areas and cover the overall Tile mentoring process. </p><h2>Timeline and Process for Mentoring </h2><p>As an engineering manager, I’m a bit of a process nerd and wanted to ensure I had a well-defined process and structure for running mentoring. One of the first decisions I made when setting up the mentoring program was whether people would be able to join at any time, or if there would be fixed times throughout the year when we would allow mentoring pairs to get created. I decided to opt for the latter as it would make the overall process easier to manage if everyone was going through the same process concurrently. I opted for a 3-month mentoring cycle with about 1 month of planning/ prep before the actual mentoring relationships.  </p><p>During the planning month, we take care of all the preliminary activities needed for a successful mentoring program. We kick off the program by announcing the mentoring program during the company&#39;s all-hands and give a quick overview in case we have any new hires.  </p><p>Afterward, we will send out the mentoring planning survey. We ask our employees if they’d like to be mentees, mentors, or both, and the focus areas they would like to develop as a mentee or teach as a mentor. We give the company about a week to fill out the survey, sending a few loving reminders along the way. </p><h2>Mentor/Mentee Matchmaking  </h2><p>After all the surveys have been completed, the mentoring matchmaking system takes place. I make it sound fancy, but it’s just a Google spreadsheet with the results from the survey and a new tab where we compile the mentoring pairs. The mentoring committee goes through each employee who desires mentorship and tries to pair the individual up with the most appropriate mentor. </p><p>Here is where I can really make sure we are empowering our female and other underrepresented employees. I ensure that they get access to the mentors they would like to get paired with to help them grow in their careers. Sometimes this requires contacting team members who may not have signed up for mentoring but may be eager once they’ve been asked. My goal is to give everyone who asks for a mentor the opportunity to meet with someone else at Tile to help them achieve their goals. </p><p>Once we’ve decided on the mentoring pairs, we send out an email congratulating the pair and inviting them to attend our mentoring training session. </p><h2>Mentorship Training </h2><p>Having training for both the mentors and the mentees is one of the most important steps for having a successful mentoring program. It is essential to cover:  </p><p>-   What is mentoring (and what it’s not) </p><p>-   The specific roles and responsibilities of the mentor and the mentee  </p><p>-   The timeline for mentoring </p><p>-   What to cover in the first mentoring session </p><p>-   Suggestions and topics for future sessions </p><p>-   Topics that need to be disclosed to HR if brought up during mentoring.  </p><p>During the first session, I have the mentoring pairs fill out a mentorship agreement form which sets the stage for the rest of the mentoring relationship. It’s supposed to be a living document, but it starts on the first session by setting a commitment to meet x times during the mentoring cycle (our recommendation is at least 6 times), setting which topics are off-limits, figuring out what are the goals to be accomplished, and starting to break down what are the action items to accomplish along the way to meet those goals. This sets the groundwork for a foundation of being able to be truthful and vulnerable with each other in the mentoring pair as the mentoring content<br/>is all confidential within the pair.  </p><p>I also like to do an exercise in active listening and really get people used to the practice of listening to someone else. It&#39;s easy to start formulating a response to something someone is saying midway through their statement, but then you may soon realize you didn’t actually hear the second half of what they said. Here’s an exercise to try as a pair. Have one person tell a story about themselves for one minute. The other person’s job is to just listen as carefully as possible. At the end of the minute, the listener repeats back to the storyteller what they remember. The storyteller shares what was correct, what was missed, and what was incorrect in the listener’s retelling of the story. The two people then switch roles, and the storyteller is now the listener and vice versa. It’s a fascinating exercise to see how well you can do this, and who the best listeners in your team are. </p><h2>Analysis of Mentoring </h2><p>At this point, your mentors and mentees should feel confident to start their mentoring relationships. I like sending out checking emails during the 3 months to provide encouragement, tips, and suggestions, as well as taking surveys. I definitely believe that which isn’t measured can’t be truly improved, and the same goes for mentoring. It’s important to set goals upfront when getting buy-in for your mentoring program and track them throughout. I suggest doing a survey of your training session, a mid-point survey to see if there is any course-correcting that needs to happen, and an end of mentoring survey to see how the round of mentoring went. The goals you set will be specific to your company and your current culture, but I like to measure the impact of mentoring on retention and empowering our team members to thrive. </p><h2>End of Mentoring Celebration </h2><p>At the end of the 3-month cycle, I like to close our journey with a celebration and retrospective of our mentoring program. I ask everyone who feels comfortable to share their successes and learnings along the way, as well as provide any feedback they have on the process overall. <p><strong>What’s New for Smart Alerts</strong></p><p>Smart Alerts have gotten smarter. These intuitive alerts make sure you don’t leave anything behind, no matter where you are or where you go. With the relaunched Smart Alerts, if you visit a place and stay a while, we’ll check to make sure you leave that location with all of the Tiled items your first arrived with. For example, if you go to the grocery store with your Tiles key and wallet, but then leave the store twenty minutes later with only your Tiled keys, we’ll proactively alert you that you no longer have your wallet.    </p><p>Before this revamp, Tile users needed to set up a Smart Alert in the app for each Tile in their account and specify a particular place where they wouldn&#39;t want to leave it. This made Smart Alerts useful for keeping track of important things at trusted places like at home or at work, but it didn’t solve for the everyday places we won’t take the time to set up, like the gym, a restaurant, or a friend’s house. And since we rely on having our essentials with us wherever we go, an update like this one was imminent.   </p><p><strong>The Smart Alert Mission</strong></p><p>From the beginning, our team set out to tackle a difficult challenge: to create a left-behind alert that&#39;s always there when you need it—and stays quiet when you don&#39;t. Alerts needed to be timely and helpful, not spammy or overwhelming. So, in order to provide the best possible customer experience, we created Smart Alerts to be completely customizable. </p>

<p>Anti-Theft Mode is a feature designed to protect high-value items like bikes and purses from theft by increasing the chances of regaining stolen property. Tile Bluetooth trackers operating in Anti-Theft Mode will now be hidden from Bluetooth device scans made by others using Scan and Secure. Tile users can activate Anti-Theft Mode on any of their current Tile trackers, including Tile-enabled partner products.</p>

<h2><strong>What is Anti-Theft Mode?</strong></h2><p>Anti-Theft Mode is a feature designed to protect high-value items like bikes and <a href='/en-nz/blog/anti-theft-backpack-purse-tracker' target='_self'>purses</a> from theft by increasing the chances of regaining stolen property. Tile users can activate Anti-Theft Mode on any of their current Tile trackers, including Tile-enabled partner products.</p><h2><strong>Why are we doing this?</strong></h2><p>We noticed this gap in the Bluetooth finding category’s ability to address theft—which we know is one of the many reasons people use our products. With increasing <a href='https://counciloncj.org/mid-year-2022-crime-trends/' target='_blank' title='Opens in a new tab'><u>theft and robbery rates</u></a> and <a href='https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-12-20/economists-place-70-chance-for-us-recession-in-2023?sref=5yAAc4IK' target='_blank' title='Opens in a new tab'><u>economic uncertainty</u></a> on the horizon, we knew the time was right to introduce Anti-Theft Mode.</p><p>As they are currently configured, Bluetooth trackers, including Tile and AirTags, can unwittingly notify criminals of the presence of a Bluetooth tracker on or in stolen items, enabling them to find the trackers and discard them to evade prosecution. Other Bluetooth trackers on the market even proactively notify nearby smartphone users when an unknown Bluetooth tracker is traveling with them and offer precision finding to locate it.</p><p>In addition to not issuing these proactive notifications, our Anti-Theft solution empowers users with the choice to make their devices invisible to Scan and Secure so that criminals will not be able to misuse this feature to locate and disable Tile devices after stealing valuables. </p><h2><strong>Why does it matter to members?</strong></h2><p>We developed Anti-Theft Mode to give members peace of mind and assurance that Tile is doing everything possible to keep valuables safe. </p><p>We also know that families don’t have time to misplace their items and certainly don’t have the time or money to replace belongings when they get stolen. We’re giving users a solution that offers them the choice to live more relaxed lives by increasing the likelihood of recovering stolen items.</p><p>Additionally, we are aware of how Bluetooth trackers are being misused in terms of stalking. That’s why we have implemented strict safety measures to ensure the Anti-Theft Mode is used only as it’s intended—to make stealing things harder. Our progressive safety measures include:</p><ol><li><p>Requiring a multi-factor ID verification process when activating Anti-Theft Mode to deter the feature from being used for nefarious purposes, such as stalking. <br/></p></li><li><p>An acknowledgment from Anti-Theft Mode users that personal information can and will be shared with law enforcement at our discretion, even without a subpoena, to aid in the investigation and prosecution of suspected stalking.</p></li><li><p>A $1 million fine for any individual convicted in a court of law for using Tile devices to illegally track any individual without their knowledge or consent. </p></li></ol><p>Our number one priority is keeping our members and their valuables safe. That’s why we’re offering our members the option to protect their valuables with Anti-Theft Mode while also  implementing all of the safeguards we can at the product level, ensuring our products are being used as they were intended.</p><h2><strong>The future. </strong></h2><p>We’re excited and optimistic about our solution to help members protect their valuables from theft and prevent the use of our products for stalking. However, we know that these safeguards are not enough to put an end to the stalking problem altogether. </p><p>Not only do the existing anti-stalking solutions in the industry eliminate anti-theft functionality, they also put the responsibility of preventing stalking entirely on the victim. </p><p>To fix the stalking problem at scale while also keeping Bluetooth trackers effective for the use cases that matter most to users, we must make industry-wide changes, like:</p><ul><li><p>Requiring all location-enabled devices that are small enough to be planted on a person to be registered using a real name to remove the ability for these devices to be used anonymously, giving law enforcement the information they need to pursue justice for victims.</p></li><li><p>Banning all devices that are specifically marketed for the secret tracking of people.</p></li><li><p>Making stalking a first-time felony offense (currently, fewer than <a href='https://www.stalkingawareness.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/SPARC_StalkngFactSheet_2018_FINAL.pdf' target='_blank' title='Opens in a new tab'><u>one-third of states</u></a> classify stalking as a felony in all circumstances).</p></li></ul><p>We know that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution to this problem. However, we hope that Anti-Theft Mode is a catalyst for the industry to make changes that deter theft and stalking and improve the overall safety of consumers. </p>
