How Device Permissions PowerLife360-696x661

How Device Permissions Power Life360

Life360 is designed to help families stay connected and respond quickly when something unexpected happens. To provide real-time location sharing, arrival notifications, driving insights, and Crash Detection, certain permissions must be enabled on your device.

Without those permissions, these safety features cannot function as intended.

Here’s why they’re required and how member choice is built into the experience:

Location Sharing Is the Foundation

Location sharing is what makes Life360 work.

It allows families to see where loved ones are, know when someone arrives safely, and get help in an emergency.

Participation is always optional and based on consent. You control when location sharing is on or off within your Circle.

When this location sharing is on it enables features such as:

  • Real-time location sharing

  • Place Alerts

  • Locations History

  • Safety features like SOS, crash detection and emergency response support, which may use your location to help get you assistance

Your control:
You can pause location sharing at any time within your Circle.

Powering Driving and Crash Features

We use Arity, a subsidiary of The Allstate Corporation, technology to help power certain driving-related features in the Life360 app.

These features rely on location and motion signals to detect when a drive starts and ends, measure speed, and identify potential crashes.

In the app, this functionality is controlled by a setting called Connect to Arity.

Arity is our service provider for the following driving-related features; as such, Connect to Arity is set to on by default.
When this setting is on, it enables driving-related features such as:

  • Drive Detection

  • Real-time speed during drives

  • Driving history and reports

  • Crash Alerts

  • Family Driving Summary

If Connect to Arity is turned off, these driving-related features will not be available.

Your control:
You can turn Connect to Arity on or off at any time in the app.

To learn more about our partnership with Arity, see Trusted Partnersip with Arity.

You are in control. Here is how:
