How to Activate a Tile

Bluetooth trackers from Tile, such as the Tile Mate, Tile Pro, and Tile Sticker, can be super useful when it comes to tracking down lost items. Plus, Tile trackers save you so much time in your daily search for things like keys, wallets, and phones. 

In order to get the best results from your Tile tracker, you need to make sure it's fully activated and set up correctly. This guide will show you how to activate a Tile tracker in a simple step-by-step process.

Ahead of Set-Up: Order a Tile Tracker

Step 1: Create a Life360 Account

Before you can start using your Tile tracker to find an Android phone or track down your missing car keys, you'll need to make your own Life360 account. Don't worry, it's a simple process. Here's how:

1. Download the Life360 app onto your smartphone or tablet. Tile works on both Android® and Apple® devices.

2. Once the app has been downloaded and installed, open it up and tap Get Started. You'll be taken to the Add a Device screen.

3. Click on the Tile Enabled Device you wish to add (we'll also go over this step later), or tap on I Don't Have a Device to skip this and go to the next step.

4. Enter your email address and create a password, including at least one letter and one number. 

5. Once this is done, tap Sign Up. You'll receive a confirmation code to your email address that you'll need to enter into the Life360 app to confirm your account. 

6. Enable Location Access for the app. This ensures the app can function fully and provide you with the most up-to-date location details on your Tiles.

7. Now your account is ready and you can move on to activating your first Tile tracker!

Step 2: Add a Tile

Next, it's time to add a Tile. This is where you can set up each individual Tile tracker you own to use as your future lost phone tracker, key finder, and precious item protector. Here's how it's done:

1. Open the Life360 app and click on the + symbol in the top left corner. Then tap on Activate a Tile. Before continuing, press the button on the Tile tracker itself to ensure that it works and has a short ringing tune. 

2. Tap Next and then hold the Tile tracker near your phone or tablet for a few seconds so a connection can be made.

3. Once you see the Great! Tile is now activated! message, your Tile tracker is ready to go.

Step 3: Ring your Tile

So, how do you actually use your Tile as a lost item tracker? Well, whenever you need to find something, you can simply ring the Tile. The tracker will emit a ringing sound that you can use to find whatever you're looking for. It's a good idea to test your new Tile tracker after activation, to ensure that it's working. Here's how to do it:

1. Open the Life360 app and look for the Tile you want to test. If your Tile tracker is within Bluetooth range, you'll see a green Find button.

2. Press the Find button and listen for the ring. The green circles will also tell you if you're moving closer or farther away from your Tile!

3. When you're done, press the Done button in the app to stop your Tile ringing, or press the button on the Tile itself.

Step 4: Personalize Your Tile Experience

You can also customize each of your Tile trackers via the Life360 app in different ways, helping you stay organized when using multiple Tiles in order to find individual items more easily. Here are some ways in which you can do this: 

• Name - Open the Life360 app and click on a Tile you want to customize. Click on the More Options menu, then tap Name and type in a new name for your Tile. Press Save when you're done. 

• Photo - Open the Life360 App and scroll to the Tile you want to add a photo to. Tap on the Change Photo button and select a photo you'd like to use. 

• Volume - Open the Life360 app , click on a Tile you want to change the volume for, and then press More Options. Tap on Volume and then select the desired volume level for your chosen Tile.

• Share - Open the Life360 app, choose a Tile you want to share. Click the Sharing button and then enter the email address of the person you want to share the Tile with.
