At a time when traditional family structures can feel less accessible or misaligned with the lifestyles of younger generations, pet parenthood has become a primary way for people to build connection, routine, and a sense of home.

As traditional life goals of homeownership, marriage, and parenthood feel less accessible or essential to younger generations across the globe, pets have emerged as a new priority, shifting modern family dynamics. According to a new international study from family connection and safety app Life360, pets are increasingly viewed as children within households. In fact, 60% of pet parents say they are currently prioritising their time, love, and money on their pet rather than planning for children. Citing emotional benefits like reduced stress (81%) along with adding structure and a sense of responsibility (77%), and notably, reminding them to find joy in everyday life (79%), pet parenthood is being treated more as a chosen path than a placeholder.* This new generation is not avoiding parental commitments; they're opting for a different breed of commitment, one that society broadly understands as offering more freedom and flexibility.
Methodology
Following the launch of its pet safety products, including a community-based Pet Finder Network and wearable Pet GPS tracker, Life360 conducted a comprehensive analysis of the over 6 million Pet Profiles added to family circles from around the world. The family connection and safety app interpreted mobility patterns and in-app engagement to understand how pets fit into users’ daily routines and decision-making. This was paired with attitudinal insights from an international study exploring how pet ownership shapes relationships, emotional well-being, and broader lifestyle choices. What emerged was a portrayal of what it means to be a pet parent today.
The Trends Defining Pet Parenthood

The SIPP & DIPP Household
Since integrating Pet Profiles into its app, Life360 has documented a steady increase in family circles containing solely one or two adults and a pet - these single income pet parents (SIPPs) and double income pet parents (DIPPs) are a new family dynamic reshaping the Life360 community. In fact, more than 120,000 new Pet Profiles are created on Life360 each week and 62% of those pets are only children, meaning they live in a SIPP or DIPP household.** Treated as a true part of the family, 86% of SIPPs and DIPPs consider their pet to be like a child and, as such, include their pet in hallmark moments like vacations (48%), holiday gatherings (46%), engagement proposals (22%), and even weddings (30%).*
The Constant Companion
The modern pet is not housebound. Over 75% of SIPPs and DIPPs’ daily routines are shaped by their pets, who now have a pronounced public presence as they accompany their parents just about everywhere.* Nearly a third (31%) of SIPPs and DIPPs admit to bringing their pets to at least three public venues each week. This includes restaurants and cafés (20%), grocery stores (16%), offices (14%), and even bars (14%). A well-traveled 9% have been on flights and another 14% regularly use public transportation.*
Reverse Separation Anxiety
The near-constant company of modern pet ownership may be driving a different kind of codependency. About a quarter of surveyed pet parents have declined social plans to avoid leaving their pet alone (23%) or have changed how or where they travel to accommodate their pet (26%).* Life360 has also noted users check on pets in the app at slightly higher rates than human children (a median of 15 times per month compared to 13 times, respectively). The majority of these check-ins occur in the evening, suggesting that pet parents experience the most separation anxiety during outings outside of business hours.**
The Pet-to-Proposal Pipeline
Raising a pet together has become a defining milestone in modern relationships, often arriving before marriage or children. Over half of SIPPs and DIPPs (56%) say that co-parenting a pet together can act as a stress test for a relationship before committing further. In fact, 43% have used, or would use, a pet to evaluate how a partner handles shared responsibility, making pet ownership a real measure of long-term compatibility.*
The Rise of the Furry First Child
While 62% of general survey respondents agree that pets allow people to maintain more freedom and flexibility than having children,*** 27% of current SIPPs and DIPPs do plan to have children eventually.* Meaning a fair amount of these pets will graduate from only child to oldest child in the coming years. Pet parenthood is also functioning as a rehearsal for building parental skillsets. More than half (55%) say a furry first child is a good way for couples to see if they are ready for children, noting that it has helped in developing patience (57%), time management (48%), playfulness and optimism (45%), emotional nurturing (43%), and even financial planning skills (32%).*
The Bottom Line
At a time when traditional family structures can feel less accessible or misaligned with the lifestyles of younger generations, pet parenthood has become a primary way for people to build connection, routine, and a sense of home. While 19% of the general population report having chosen to get a pet before having children,*** the sentiment is strongest among millennials specifically, with 45% currently on the same path — with a pet at home and children planned for the future.* Pet-first households are emerging as the dominant model of living, with pets reshaping how people approach relationships, identity, and long-term decisions. *	Survey of 6,000 single income pet parents and double income pet parents without children across the UK, USA, and Australia conducted between April 8, 2026 and April 14, 2026 **	Internal Life360 data, 2026 ***	Survey of 6,000 respondents (aged 18-45) across the UK, USA, and Australia conducted between April 8, 2026 and April 14, 2026

Life360 Global Pet Parenthood Report: The Rise of the “Furry First Child”

Life360 data reveals how families are adapting to rising costs, with discount grocery visits climbing amid inflation and job uncertainty.

Key Insights: ➮ Discount grocery shopping surges across the country: Visits to discount grocery stores increased 3x faster than other grocery stores over the past year nationwide. ➮ Economic uncertainty fuels discount shopping in D.C.: The metro region has seen one of the largest increases in discount chain traffic, jumping five spots in state rankings. ➮ Job market strain fuels discount grocery growth in middle-income metros. Portland, Atlanta, and Sacramento are among the most impacted regions seeking a spike in discount grocers.
Examining where families spend their time outside of home, work, and school offers a revealing snapshot of everyday American life. While big-box stores dominate as the most common shared destination, few places capture the rhythm of family life quite like the grocery store. Across the country, grocery shopping remains one of the most universal family rituals—an errand that bridges regions, income levels, and generations. There are 26 unique grocery chains that top popularity rankings across the 50 states, and no single chain leads in more than six, underscoring how local these routines remain even within a shared national habit. Grocery stores are also on the frontlines of the big economic and social forces shaping our times – from inflation, to labor market jitters, to shifting family norms. Life360 data sheds light on how Americans’ grocery shopping habits are evolving through these economic headwinds. Visits to discount grocery stores increased 3x faster than visits to other grocery stores over the past year. Between September 2024 and September 2025, nationwide visits to discount grocery stores increased three times faster than visits to other grocery stores. More than one-in-eight (13.1%) grocery store visits nationwide are now to discount chains, compared to one-in-nine (11.6%) a year ago. The increase has been largest in states where discount chains already accounted for a relatively high share of total grocery store visits. Where discount chains are established and accessible, shoppers are visiting them more. Oregon had the second-highest share of grocery store visits to discount chains a year ago, and has seen the largest increase since then: +4.0 percentage points to 30.0% of all grocery store visits. Its neighbors – Idaho (+3.5 percentage points to 34.5%) and Washington (+3.4 percentage points to 23.6%) also saw large increases in discount grocery store traffic from September 2024 to September 2025. The District of Columbia is an outlier: Despite having an average share of grocery store visits to discount chains a year ago, it has seen one of the largest increases in discount chain traffic. It was ranked 25th among states for the share of grocery store visits to a discount chain in September 2024, but has seen the sixth-largest increase over the past year. It is now ranked 20th for the share of grocery visits to a discount store, jumping five spots in the state rankings. It’s likely that this is related to the elevated degree of economic uncertainty prevailing in the Washington, D.C. metro area as it grapples with rapid cuts to the federal workforce. Visits to discount grocery stores have increased more in areas where the unemployment rate has increased, especially in middle-income metros. On average, states and metro areas that have seen larger increases in the unemployment rate over the past year have also seen larger increases in the share of grocery store visits to discount chains: The share of grocery store visits to a discount chain increased by 1.2 percentage points in the 21 states that saw their unemployment rate increase from September 2024 to September 2025. By comparison, the share of grocery store visits to a discount chain increased by 0.7 percentage points in 14 states that saw their unemployment rate decrease over the same period. (There was no change in the unemployment rate in the remaining eight states, which saw their share of grocery store visits to a discount chain increase by 1 percentage point.) Notably, WinCo Foods – a discount chain – overtook Trader Joe’s as the top grocery store in California between Q2 and Q3 2025. On average, among the top 30 metro areas nationwide, middle-income metros—those with a median annual household income between $80,000 and $95,000 (2023 dollars), including places like Portland, Oregon; Atlanta, Georgia; Sacramento, California; and Riverside, California—have seen larger increases in visits to discount grocery chains. Discount grocery store visits have also increased in more affluent and less affluent metros, but the increase has been more muted. The upward trend has steepened since May 2025. Dads do about one-fifth of the grocery shopping among families with two parents. Nationwide, among Life360 family circles that include both a mom and a dad in Q2 2025, about 35.1% of grocery store visits were by a mom (with or without children), 21% of visits were by a dad (with or without children), 8.7% included both a mom and a dad, and 35.2% included neither parent. (We excluded family circles that include a friend or a grandparent.) However, dads appear to do a higher share of grocery shopping in a few – perhaps unexpected – places. The states where these grocery dads had the highest share of grocery visits were: Rhode Island (30.3%), North Dakota (29.6%), Wyoming (26.6%), West Virginia (26.3%), and New Jersey (25.0%). By contrast, grocery dads were least common in Vermont (11.3%), Maine (15.0%), Kansas (15.1%), South Dakota (16.5%) and New Hampshire (17.7%). Moms carry the highest burden of grocery shopping in Alaska (41.4%), Illinois (41.4%), Delaware (41.2%), Connecticut (41.2%), and Maine (40.2%). Looking across the top 30 metro areas, there are eight metros where dads do upward of one-quarter of grocery shopping: Washington, D.C. (29.6%); San Jose, CA (29.3%); Austin, TX (27.8%); New York, NY (27.0%); Detroit, MI (26.2%); Buffalo, NY (26.2%); Minneapolis, MN (25.3%); and Seattle, WA (25.0%). At the other end, dads appear to carry the least of the grocery shopping burden in Oklahoma City, OK (16.4%); Salt Lake City, UT (16.6%); St Louis, MO (17.2%); Milwaukee, WI (17.7%); Charlotte, NC (17.9%); and Nashville, TN (18.0%). Methodology Analysis of Life360 member grocery store visits, excluding big box stores and discount stores where food is not the primary merchandise sold. Visits include any stop greater than 20 minutes at one of the 7,100 national and regional places of business tracked by Life360. The most visited grocery stores reflect the average number of visits per month for Q3 2025. Discount grocery chains include: 99 Ranch Market, Aldi, Cash Saver, Cost Plus, Dollar General Market, Edwards Cash Saver, Food 4 Less, Grocery Outlet, King Cash Saver, Lidl, Pic-N-Sav Grocery Outlet, Price Rite, Save-A-Lot, Sharp Shopper, Smart & Final, United Grocery Outlet, and WinCo Foods. State and metro unemployment rates are through August 2025, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Metro population rankings and median household incomes are based on 2024 U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey data.

Inside Everyday Family Life: Grocery Trends

Inside Everyday Family Life: Discount grocery store visits climb amid rising unemployment, inflation headwinds

As economic anxiety rises, Americans are cutting back—but not on everything. A new national survey by Life360 reveals how people are reprioritizing in what we call the Anxiety Economy.

Amid inflation, tariffs, and concerns about AI-driven job loss, consumers are feeling increasingly uneasy about their financial future. To better understand how Americans are responding, Life360 conducted a national survey of 1,000 U.S. adults to explore current economic sentiment and spending decisions. The results show a clear emotional undercurrent: 71% of Americans feel economically vulnerable, and two-thirds describe the economy as uncertain. That unease is growing; 64% say their anxiety has increased since the start of the year. While 65% report cutting back on spending, the bigger shift is in how people are choosing to spend. Many are moving their money toward comfort and peace of mind, redefining what counts as essential in today’s economic climate. What is the Anxiety Economy? The findings point to an emerging trend described as the Anxiety Economy, a shift where people are making emotionally driven trade-offs and holding onto the tools that help them feel safer, more in control, and less anxious. Uncertainty is quickly emerging as the economy’s buzzword for 2025, says Life360 economist Aaron Terrazas. Over one in three Americans report that they have experienced uncertainty or difficulty at work recently – a figure that is even higher among younger Americans. In moments of elevated economic uncertainty, the premium on security increases: Investors seek safe assets, businesses prioritize safe investments, and families double down on peace of mind. The Anxiety Economy surges during these historical moments when risks are elevated and the future feels cloudy. As economy-watchers have seen repeatedly over the past few years, shifting vibes take on a life of their own – and have very real downstream consequences for where households spend and how businesses invest. The New Spending Hierarchy When asked to evaluate nine everyday expense categories, consumers said they’re most likely to cut back on dining out, online shopping, travel, and tech gadgets, with streaming services not far behind. But one category stood out: safety and security services, including features like emergency alerts for loved ones, home security notifications, and digital threat protections. It was the only expense where people were more likely to say they’re investing more (21%) than cutting back (20%). That puts safety ahead of categories like education and even fitness and wellness subscriptions when it comes to what people are protecting. In fact, Life360 found that nearly 8 in 10 Americans are more likely to invest in safety during times of turmoil, and that peace of mind is driving real trade-offs. High inflation over the past few years, plus the fear that inflation could remain high or even reaccelerate in the coming months, is prompting families to take a closer look at their budgets,” says Life360 economist Aaron Terrazas. “Whenever the economic outlook has darkened, Americans have prioritized needs over wants. But the details of what types of spending fall into the needs bucket, and what falls into the wants bucket, evolve with each new generation. A Generational Divide: Safety vs. Self-Care What Americans prioritize isn’t just shifting — it’s splitting along generational lines. When asked to rank their spending priorities after covering essentials like food and housing, Gen Z and Millennials consistently placed safety and security at the top, while Gen X and Baby Boomers prioritized health and wellness instead. Research shows that our formative economic experiences shape our long-term attitudes toward risk and uncertainty, said Terrazas. The long echoes of pandemic-era uncertainty are clear in generational divides when it comes to what people prioritize in an uncertain world. In short, younger generations aren’t just tech-native — they’re anxiety-native, and their spending reflects it. Consumers Rethink Their Subscriptions Apps and subscription services are among the most popular discretionary spending categories, with 94% of Americans paying for at least one. The average monthly spend on apps sits around $73 for individuals and $96 for parents. However, those surveyed also expressed a desire to cut their app subscription budget by at least 23% (for individuals) and 31% (for parents). But even as many look for ways to cut back, certain types of apps are emerging as the most protected, with safety tools and streaming services tied for first place. Among parents, safety apps consistently rank as the most essential, outranking every other category, including streaming, music, delivery, wellness, and budgeting tools. But it’s not just a preference; multiple data points confirm that peace of mind is what families fight to keep.

40% of parents describe safety and emergency alert apps as non-negotiable — more than any other category

55% of parents and 43% of individuals say they’d fight to keep location sharing because it helps them feel safer and more in control

What Emotional Spending Really Looks Like When the world feels unpredictable, people aren’t just protecting practical tools; they’re holding on to what makes them feel better, whether that’s security and control or an escape. Customers ranked streaming services like Netflix and Hulu as the subscriptions they’re least likely to cut, along with apps that provide safety or peace of mind.

82% are willing to pay more for products that provide peace of mind

88% say knowing their family is safe improves their well-being

When asked how they’d spend an extra $100 in their tech budget, the average American would put roughly 20% toward safety and security apps. In short, safety is leading the pack, but there’s a broader shift toward tech that supports well-being, everyday functionality, and connection. Parents Are Doubling Down on Peace of Mind The research shows this shift is even more pronounced among parents. From juggling pickups and work meetings to keeping tabs on teen drivers or aging relatives, today’s families are navigating more stress, and they’re turning to safety tech to stay sane.

85% of parents are interested in spending more on technology that makes their family safer

Families with school-aged kids (ages 6-10) are spending the most on safety features and services

And parents are leading the adoption of key tools like crash detection, roadside assistance, and location sharing

These aren’t fringe behaviors. They’re part of a larger cultural shift in which safety is no longer just about emergencies—it’s about everyday peace of mind. More Than a Moment, It’s a Shift in Essentials The Anxiety Economy isn’t a trend. It’s a reflection of how modern families are navigating an unpredictable world. From solo commutes to teen drivers, keeping tabs on pets and aging parents, or monitoring their homes, families are increasingly integrating digital safety tools into their daily routines. Safety tech is now a staple, not a splurge, said Chris Hulls, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Life360. Families are cutting back on everyday conveniences, but they’re not willing to sacrifice tools that help them feel safer, more connected, and more in control. Peace of mind is one thing they’re still willing to pay for. In the Anxiety Economy, peace of mind is the new utility, and families are budgeting for it like they do electricity or Wi-Fi.# # # Survey Methodology: This sample of 1,000 US adults (aged 18-65) was surveyed on June 9th, 2025. Sampling was calibrated to obtain representative demographics by age, gender, race/ethnicity, and parental status. LIFE360 ANNOUNCES NEW PET CARE PRODUCTS SO NO ONE FORGETS FIDO THIS BACK-TO-SCHOOL SEASON

Create a Temporary Circle in Life360 to share real-time location with a group for a set time. Everyone sees everyone, and sharing stops automatically when it ends.

Two families. Nine people arriving from four different cities. Three of them on a different flight. One dad who insists he knows a shortcut and is now, somehow, forty minutes behind everyone else. Nobody has anybody else on Life360. But nobody wants to add nine people to their permanent Circle for a long weekend. What you need is a Circle that exists for the trip — and dissolves when it's over.
Temporary Circles is Life360's group location sharing feature with a built-in expiry.

Everyone you invite joins a shared Circle, sharing their real-time location with the whole group and seeing everyone else's — all inside the Life360 app. When your set duration runs out, location sharing stops automatically. No cleanup. No awkward removals. It just ends.Temporary Circles is live now in the Life360 app.Try it today.

Why group coordination is a different problem
There's a reason the group chat turns into chaos the second people split up at an event or arrive from different directions. The tools most people reach for — texting, WhatsApp, even temporary location sharing — are one-directional. One person updates the group on where they are. That's fine for two people. For a group of eight at a music festival, it breaks down immediately. The problem isn't that nobody's sharing. It's that everyone needs to see everyone. Temporary Circles solves exactly that. One person creates the Circle, everyone joins, and the shared map is live for the whole group — no one person playing dispatcher, no I can see you but you can't see me confusion, no thread of 40 location screenshots.
Quick rule:
Need the whole group on the same map? Try Temporary Circles. Just need to send someone your location? Start temporary location sharing.
Here's how it works
Invite your group. Everyone joins right in the app. That's it. From that point, every member of the Circle can see every other member's real-time location on a shared map. Live, updated, accurate — the whole group in one view.
While the Circle is active
Every member's pin shows on the shared map. Someone went to get food and hasn't come back? You can see exactly where they are. The group split across two entrances? Everyone navigates to each other without a single text. The drive home turned into four different routes? The whole group tracks in real time until everyone's safe.
When time's up
The Circle closes. Every member sees a notification that the session has ended. Location access stops for the entire group — no residual visibility, no one lingering in a Circle that's run its course. Or end it early yourself, anytime, from the app.
Group location sharing for concerts and festivals
Your group is going to split up. It always does. Someone finds the merch booth, someone needs water, someone claims they're right by the stage — which stage being the open question. Create a Temporary Circle before you arrive. Set it for the duration of the event. From that point, everyone in your group has a live view of where everyone else is — no I'm by the blue tent messages, no designated meeting spot you'll never find, no one waiting alone at the wrong entrance for 20 minutes. When the night ends and everyone scatters to their cars or their Ubers, the Circle is still live until you close it. When the last person is home safe, close it out. Done.
Temporary location sharing for family vacations and extended family
You probably wouldn't add the cousins to your permanent Life360 family Circle. But a family reunion weekend where everyone's driving in from different states and nobody knows the neighborhood? That calls for a shared map. Temporary Circles give extended family, visiting relatives, or a second family joining your trip real-time mutual visibility for exactly as long as the visit lasts. No one has to be added to anyone's permanent Circle. No awkward should I remove them now? conversation once it's over. The Circle runs for the weekend, or the week, and then it's gone.
Location sharing for weekend trips, sports games, and group meetups
The two-family road trip where three kids are in each car and nobody can agree on a lunch stop. The sports tournament weekend across four different fields. The work offsite where everyone's commuting from different hotels. The group dinner where half the people are still on the train. Set a Temporary Circle for the duration of the plan — one day or one week — and the whole group stays connected without a single where are you? text. When the plan is over, the Circle expires and everyone goes back to their normal Life360 setup.
The group social contract, solved
Adding someone to your permanent Life360 Circle says something. It's a commitment. And removing them — even when the moment has obviously passed — can feel loaded. Temporary Circles is built around a different social contract entirely. Everyone who joins knows exactly how long the Circle runs. There's no why did you remove me? because there's no removal. The Circle ends when it said it would. That's it. It means you can actually invite the people you need for the moment — the colleague on the work trip, the visiting in-laws, the friends doing the festival — without any of it becoming a permanent thing. Trust for the moment. Nothing more.

Is a Temporary Circle right for you?

FAQ: Temporary Circles on Life360
What is Temporary Circles on Life360? Temporary Circles is Life360's group location sharing feature with a built-in expiry. You create a Circle, invite your group, set the duration, and everyone shares their real-time location with each other inside the Life360 app. When the time runs out, the Circle closes automatically. How long can a Temporary Circle last? From one day to multiple weeks — you set it when you create the Circle. It closes automatically when time's up, or you can end it early at any point. Can everyone in the Circle see everyone else's location? Yes, that's the whole point. Every member sees every other member's real-time location on the shared map. It's mutual visibility — not one person broadcasting to the rest. Does everyone need the Life360 app to join? Yes. Temporary Circles is a full in-app experience. Everyone who joins needs Life360 on their device. If you need to share your location with someone who doesn't have the app, temporary location sharing] lets them view via a browser link — no download needed. Can I end a Temporary Circle before the timer runs out? Yes. The Circle creator can close it for the entire group at any time. When it closes, location access ends immediately for all members. Do Temporary Circles stop sharing automatically? Yes. The Circle expires at the end of the duration you set — no one needs to manually remove members or close the session. You can also end it early anytime. Can I use Temporary Circles for a concert or festival? It's one of the best use cases. Create the Circle before you arrive, invite your group, and everyone navigates to each other on the live map. Set the duration to cover the event and it closes on its own when the night's over. Can I create a Temporary Circle for a family vacation? Yes — especially useful for trips with extended family, in-laws, or another family joining you. Everyone gets mutual visibility for the trip without being added to a permanent Circle. Can people in a Temporary Circle see my regular Life360 Circle? No. Temporary Circle members can only see location shared within that specific session. They won't see your other Circles, location history, or anything outside the Temporary Circle. Is Temporary Circles available on all Life360 plans? Temporary Circles is available to Life360 members.
Ready to bring your group together?
Temporary Circles is live now in the Life360 app for iOS and Android. Disney World is the most magical place on earth — and the most effective place on earth for losing things you love. This guide gives you the exact packing list and two-tool tracking system (Life360 for people, Tile for stuff) so the only thing you're chasing all day is the next ride.

You've got the tickets. The matching outfits. The plan. And roughly a thousand dollars of stuff shoved into a bag that your four-year-old is about to use as a stepstool.Welcome to ®Disney World — the most magical place on earth. And with a little preparation, you can keep it that way. Because the magic hits different when you’re not hunting for your sunglasses, your wallet, or — briefly, very briefly, but still — your kid. Here's the system that keeps it all together — so the memories you make are the good kind.
The quick answer
Bring your tickets in the app, ID, a payment method, a fully charged phone, a battery pack, sunscreen, ponchos, water, snacks, and your kid's gear. Then solve the two things that actually ruin park days: get your whole family on Life360 so everyone's on one shared map, and put a Tile on your bag, wallet, stroller, and phone so you can find your stuff the second it goes missing. The rule is simple. Life360 tracks people. Tile tracks things. That's it. That's the whole game.
What to bring to ®Disney World: the essentials
Pack light. Pack smart. Plan for sunshine, spontaneous rain, and the kind of fun that wears everyone out in the best possible way.
Documents, payment, and your phone

Park tickets and reservations in the ®My Disney Experience app

ID and a payment method (tap-to-pay means one less thing to dig for)

A fully charged phone and a battery pack with a cable — your phone is your ticket, your map, your camera, and your tracker. Don't let it die.

Weather and comfort

Sunscreen, sunglasses, hats

Ponchos — buy them before you get to the gate, because the afternoon storm isn't a maybe

A refillable water bottle and a small hand fan

Kids and toddler gear

Stroller (label it — every stroller looks identical once you're inside)

Snacks and a change of clothes for the little ones

A recent photo of each kid saved to your phone, right now, before you need it

The easy-to-lose stuff

Phone, ear buds, wallet, keys, sunglasses — the small, expensive, slippery things that vanish in crowds

That last list? That's the one that costs you. Let's deal with it.

People vs. things: two different problems, two different tools
Here's the thing nobody tells you before your first big park day: tracking your family and tracking your stuff are completely different problems. How to Track Everything at ®Disney World Without Losing Your Mind

Your dog found the weak spot in the fence again. We get it. This guide compares Tractive and Life360 Pet GPS so you can stop guessing and get your dog properly tracked. Both have real-time GPS, virtual fences, and solid battery life. Tractive wins on health monitoring. Life360 wins on everything else — your dog shows up on the same map as your family, your whole Circle gets alerted if they escape, and tens of millions of members can help bring them home. Pets are family. They should be on the family map.

Summary
A deep dive comparison between Tractive and Life360 Pet GPS, including how each tracker works and which one makes more sense depending on how your dog lives.
Who It's For

Pet parents researching GPS trackers for their dog for the first time

Anyone who has seen Tractive GPS reviews and wants to know how it stacks up

Families who already use Life360 and are wondering if the Pet GPS fits their setup

Key Takeaways

Both Tractive and Life360 Pet GPS tap into satellites and cellular networks for real-time tracking with unlimited range.

Tractive offers health monitoring and activity tracking alongside location features.

Life360 Pet GPS puts your dog on the same map as the rest of your family in one app.

Do you have a dog who, bless their heart, has made a personal hobby out of finding the one weak spot in the fence and absolutely going for it? You know the feeling. That split second of looking around and realizing your dog is just... gone. And then the frantic, heart-pounding scramble that follows. A GPS tracker doesn't prevent the great escape, but it does mean that when it happens, you're not wandering the neighborhood hoping that your fur baby is in an obedient mood. You know where your dog went, and you can easily go get them. Tractive and Life360 are some of the bigger names that come up when pet parents start researching trackers. They are. Both popular and well-reviewed, so how do you decide? This article breaks down what you actually get with each one so that you can make a call that fits how your family lives.
How Dog GPS Trackers Actually Work
How do these devices even work? What do you need to know to make an informed decision? Here's what we can tell you.
GPS and Cellular Networks
A GPS tracker on your dog's collar taps into satellites to figure out where your dog is. That location data then gets sent to your phone via cellular networks, the same way your phone uses data for everything else. Most trackers have a built-in SIM card that connects to local networks automatically, which is what makes unlimited range possible. As long as there's cell coverage, the tracker can send location updates. In areas with poor cell service, like rural properties or remote hiking trails, that connection can get spotty. It's worth knowing before you assume the tracker will work perfectly everywhere.
Virtual Fences and Safe Zones
Most GPS trackers let you draw a boundary on a map around your home or any other area where your dog should stay. When your dog crosses that line, you get an alert. These are often called virtual fences or safe zones, and they're one of the more useful features any pet tracker can offer. The faster you know your dog has left a safe area, the faster you can do something about it.
Live Tracking vs. Standard Tracking
There's a difference between a tracker that updates every few seconds and one that checks in at regular intervals. Live tracking gives you a near-real-time picture of where your dog is moving. Standard tracking is more of a periodic check. Live tracking is more useful when something is actually happening, but it uses more battery. If you're running live tracking frequently, expect to charge more often regardless of which device you choose.
What the Tractive GPS App Does
Tractive has built a solid reputation in the pet tracking space. The Tractive GPS tracker taps into satellites and connects to local cellular networks via a built-in SIM card, giving it worldwide coverage in over 175 countries. Real-time tracking updates every few seconds, which is impressive for a device this size. Pet parents can create virtual fences and set no-go zones, getting escape alerts when their dog wanders somewhere they shouldn't. Location history is available through the Tractive app, going back up to 365 days depending on the subscription plan. The Tractive device is lightweight and designed to sit comfortably on a dog's collar without being noticeable. It's fully waterproof and shockproof, which matters for dogs who swim, run through mud, or generally treat every outdoor adventure like an Olympic event. The Tractive app also includes health monitoring and activity tracking, giving pet parents a picture of their dog's wellness alongside their location. Power saving zones are a useful feature worth calling out specifically. When your dog is in a known safe area like your home, the tracker uses less battery automatically. It's a smart way to extend battery life without having to manually adjust settings.
Tractive Battery Life
Battery life on Tractive devices varies by model. The DOG 6, their most recent dog tracker, lasts up to two weeks on a single charge with standard use. Older or standard models typically get around a week of battery life with regular use. The catch is live tracking. Running the tracker in live mode frequently drains the battery significantly faster. If your dog is the kind of escape artist who triggers a lot of active tracking sessions, you'll be charging more often than the box suggests. Power saving zones help offset this when your dog is home, but it's worth setting expectations.
Tractive App Subscription Plans
The Tractive GPS tracker requires a subscription plan to function. Without an active subscription, the tracker doesn't work. Plans start at around $5 per month on a two-year commitment, or $12 per month if you prefer to pay monthly. A premium subscription unlocks extended location history and additional convenience features. You can pause your subscription for up to six months if you don't need it, and cancel anytime.
Where Tractive Falls Short
Tractive is good at what it does, and what it does is track your dog. That's it. It lives in its own app. It has its own subscription. It exists in its own little world, completely separate from everything else going on in your household. There's no family map, and when your dog goes missing, the only person who gets notified is you. For pet parents who want a simple standalone tracker, that might be enough. But for families who think about safety as something that covers everyone, including the four-legged members, Tractive starts to feel like a piece of a puzzle rather than a complete picture.

Here’s What Life360 Pet GPS Does
Life360 Pet GPS starts from a different premise. Pets are family, which means your dog belongs on the same map as everyone else.
Real-Time Tracking on Your Family Map
The Life360 Pet GPS tracker taps into satellites and cellular networks to give you live location updates on your dog, right inside the Life360 app. The same app where you can already see your kids, your partner, and anything tracked with a Tile. No switching between apps or platforms to check. Your dog is on the map where they belong. Place alerts let you set safe zones around home, a dog sitter's house, the park, or anywhere else that matters. When your dog arrives or leaves, you know.
Virtual Fences, Safe Zones, and Escaped Pet Mode
Like Tractive, Life360 Pet GPS lets you create virtual fences and get escape alerts when your dog crosses a boundary. But when your dog actually goes missing, something else kicks in. Escaped Pet Mode instantly notifies everyone in your Circle. Not just you. Everyone. Your partner, your kids, your parents, and whoever else is in your Life360 Circle gets the alert and can help look, which gives you the best chance at getting your furry friend back where they belong.
The Pet Finder Network
This is where Life360 Pet GPS pulls away from any standalone tracker on the market. When your dog is missing, and you activate a Lost Pet Alert, your dog's details and your contact information get sent to nearby Life360 members. Life360 has tens of millions of members, which is a lot of extra eyes looking for your dog. No standalone tracker can offer that. It's not a feature you can replicate with a better device or a pricier subscription, but simply a platform used by tens of millions of families.

Battery Life and Build
Life360 Pet GPS gets up to 14 days per charge with average use. There's also a six-month low power reserve mode for extended periods when you need the tracker to stay active but don't need constant updates. It charges via USB-C and is water resistant, built to handle splashes, mud, and all the chaos that comes with an active dog.
Life360 Membership and Pet GPS
Life360 Pet GPS requires a Silver, Gold or Platinum Life360 membership. Silver runs $9.99 a month, Gold runs $16.99 per month and Platinum runs $24.99 per month. That membership covers your whole family, not just the dog. Crash detection, emergency dispatch, 24/7 roadside assistance, unlimited place alerts, and 30 days of location history are all included for everyone in your Circle.
Tractive vs Life360 Pet GPS Tracking
Side by side, this is how the two tracking apps for your pets compare:

Real-time tracking and coverage: Both tap into satellites and cellular networks with unlimited range.

Virtual fences and escape alerts: Both offer virtual fences and escape alerts, though Life360 adds Escaped Pet Mode and the Pet Finder Network, which is a significant step up when your dog is actually missing.

Battery life: Roughly comparable, both landing around two weeks with standard use. Life360 Pet GPS adds a six-month reserve mode for extended low-power situations.

Health monitoring: Activity tracking and health alerts are a strength of the Tractive app.

The ecosystem: Tractive tracks your dog in its own app, while Life360 Pet GPS puts your dog on the same map as everyone else you love.

Life360 Is All about Peace of Mind
Here's the thing about Tractive — it's a good tracker. But it only knows your dog. It doesn't know your family. Life360 Pet GPS does. Your dog gets a spot on the same map as your kids, your partner, and everyone in your Circle. And when something goes wrong, you've got tens of millions of Life360 members ready to help bring them home. That's what makes it the better choice for most families. Not just better features, but a better fit for your lifestyle. Shop Life360 Pet GPS and bring your whole family together in one place.

Tile just launched four new earth tone colors—Seaglass, Clay, Slate, and Blush—designed to blend into your everyday life as naturally as they track your stuff. Inspired by the natural world, the new shades are calm, considered, and available now in Tile and Tile Slim through the Life360 app.

Let's just say it: most tech accessories look like they belong in a junk drawer. Not anymore. Tile just launched four new earth tone colors—Seaglass, Dune, Slate, and Blush—and they're the kind of shades you actually want clipped to your keychain, slipped into your wallet, or tucked in your bag. Down-to-earth colors that are, fittingly, down to track it all. Same unmatched finding power. A whole new palette.
What Are Tile's New Earth Tone Colors?
The new Tile color collection draws its inspiration from the natural world—oceans, mountainsides, sun-baked earth, stone. Each shade is grounded and familiar, the kind of color that feels intentional rather than incidental. No neons. No plastics. No trying too hard. Just four shades that go with your stuff. Here's what's new: Seaglass is a muted teal — think sea glass you'd pick up on the beach, not the electric teal of a 2015 phone case. Soft, a little cool, and way more interesting than black on a keychain. Dune is warm and earthy — the kind of color that looks like it belongs on a shelf at an expensive ceramics studio. It also happens to look great tucked into a bag or clipped to your keys. Your wallet has never looked this good. (And now it'll never go missing, either.) Slate is a cool, understated gray rooted in stone. If you've been waiting for a tracker that doesn't scream tech accessory, this is it. Blush introduces a subtle pink that reads mineral rather than candy-coated. It’s refined — not overly polished. She's beauty, she's grace, she knows where your wallet is. All four colors are available in Tile and Tile Slim. Mix, match, and track everything you love.
Why Does Tile Color Actually Matter?
Because you carry your Tile everywhere. It's on your keychain, in your bag, clipped to your luggage. It goes with you to the grocery store, the gym, the airport, your in-laws' house. The things you carry say something about you—and your tracker should, too. This collection was built on a simple idea: peace of mind shouldn't have to look ugly. The shift toward softer, more muted tones isn't just happening at Tile. It's a broader move in design and fashion toward palettes that feel calm and cohesive—colors you choose to carry, not just something you need. Tile's new earth tones fit seamlessly into everyday objects and environments because that's exactly how they were designed. Premium. Intentional. Timeless. And yes, still completely capable of finding your keys from across the house.
What Can You Track With the New Tile Colors?
Everything. That's kind of the point. Track your keys (obviously). Your bag. Your wallet. Your luggage. Your backpack. The TV remote. That pricey camera you take everywhere. Your bike. Tile's Bluetooth range goes up to 350 feet, and the ring is loud enough to hear from the next room. Picking a color? That's the hard part. And because Tile lives inside the Life360 app, you're tracking your stuff right alongside your people and pets—all in one place. One app. Zero wondering. Full peace of mind.
The Tile + Life360 Combination: Everything, Tracked
Here's what makes the new Tile colors even better: they work with Life360, the family connection app that keeps your people, pets, and most important things close. From the Life360 app, you can:

Find your things — Play a sound on your Tile, or track it down on the map

Find your phone — Use Tile to make your phone ring even when it's on silent

Send an SOS — Use the SOS button to discreetly send an alert to your Circle

So while your new Dune or Seaglass Tile is turning heads, it's also quietly doing the most important job it's ever had.
How to Choose Your New Tile Color
Genuinely can't pick? Here's how to think about it. Seaglass is for anyone who gravitates toward cooler tones — the kind of person who has a linen everything and probably owns at least one piece of sea glass already. It's calm-looking without being boring. Dune is warm and earthy. If your vibe runs more natural materials and neutral tones than bright pops of color, Dune is going to feel like it was made for you. Also just looks really good against leather. Slate is the easy answer if you're genuinely undecided. Gray sounds boring until you see it — it's more of a cool stone tone in person, and it goes with literally everything without looking like you just grabbed whatever was closest. Blush tends to surprise people. It's pink, but it's not pink pink — more like a dusty rose that happens to be attached to a Bluetooth tracker. If you've been waiting for tech that doesn't look like tech, this is the one. And if you still can't pick, get two. Your keys and your wallet don't need to match.
Get the New Shades. Keep Track of Everything.
Four new colors. The same hard-working tracking. And the peace of mind that comes from knowing your stuff is exactly where it should be. Earth tones aren't going away. Neither is your peace of mind.Shop the new Tile shades →
